We had a rainy travel day with a semi-early start. We usually don’t get breakfast until 9-ish and we actually left for the train station at 8:45. Had a quick breakfast at Tully’s where I had a hot dog (no pix) because Promenade didn’t open until 8am. We were early to the train station but only about 50 minutes. Our mom would get us to the shinkansen station three hours early and some of those stations were seriously boring.
Like I said, it was a rainy day and here’s our (non-) view of Mt Fuji from the train.

We made it to Tokyo station and splurged on a taxi to the hotel. It’s way more relaxing than getting on a crowded train with all your baggage to go across town.
It was pretty rainy and we made it to the Shinjuku underground but that was under serious repair. We found a restaurant floor and decided to eat at the Wired Cafe. They’re usually pretty good but it’s another place that makes you order via QR code. We got sweet chili fries to start and hoovered those before I remembered to take a picture.

I had the new “Shibuya rice” which included a papadom and a minced meat katsu. Mariko had the taco rice, which is what I usually get.

Then we did a bit of shopping before hiding in our rooms for a bit. Hiding from the rain.
Mariko found out that my favorite tonkatsu restaurant was closed for renovations! We went to the Keio dining floor (another one of our usual haunts) and I was happy to see there were more people there this time around. There was a tonkatsu restaurant there that was pretty good. The pork loin is from Japan and I got the “special”. Mariko go the pork tenderloin (less fatty) but the pork itself was imported from Mexico according to the server.

And that’s it for our first day in Tokyo. (I was cranky and wished I was back in Osaka. The crowds get to me.)
