This is the fake message I got on myspace.com:

Subject: Hello!
Hi 🙂 Just so you know, this account doesn’t belong to me…I’m borrowing a friend’s. I’m not to smart about computers, so I haven’t set up my own account. But my friend has been so lucky on here I just had to try it out! Your profile really stood out, so I decided to say hi. If I seem like your kind of girl at all, maybe you could take a chance and email me at kristen_jules552 at yahoo. Another friend said she would show me how to email pics, so I can send some of those along, too…

So I sent the message:

I received a message from you on myspace.com, or so I think. Just checking to see if that’s not a mistake.

And I got the reply:

Doesn’t that sound odd? No details like “I’m in Portland” or “I like the Trailblazers” or anything. Googling for the username “natkat224” gave me one hit on the fark.com web site where, if you page down, you’ll see an EXACT copy of the email!

So, for those of you who said I should email her, thanks a boatload! 🙂

  1. Hmmm… You know I got this (nearly) exact same email today after getting an email on MySpace. Damn shame too because the blonde honey on the website is a babe.

    I emailed to check it out and got back the same response as you to the letter, except the link to her “school project” was on the mythical ccotw.edu domain name. (There is no “Community College of Twin Cities” which is what I think that was supposed to look like.)

    I googled “natkat224” same as you did and got a hit off your blog.

  2. yeah I just got this a few days ago..thought it was real for a second but it sounded fake so I did a little searching. Plus if you go to the website that is listed in the email. there is a coldwell banker sign. I searched coldwell banker and that phone number…its in michigan. So if you serched for people in your area and got this….well its an abvious fake..good luck

  3. Hey.. I just got this same e-mail this morning. What do these people think I was born yesterday?
    As if I couldn’t tell that the e-mail reply was manufactured, when I clicked the webpage, I checked the root directory. Sure enough, there were two identical pages with the same BS and pics, and a different name. I also came across this blog by typing it into google, so sorry if I’m bothering you

    At the bottom there’s some BS about some “suggestive pics my girlfriend and ex boyfriend took” and one of those “adult access key” things where you supposedly have to give a credit card number to prove that you are of legal age to view adult material. What do you think I’m freakin stupid? Plus the HTML on that page is pretty crude. If you’re gonna do something like this, at least do a good job, thank you very much.
    I smell a big scam that only stupid people fall for.

  4. By the way an IP search of the IP the e-mail was sent from (found in the full header of the e-mail) shows that this person is an AOL user. I think this says something about the scammer. Just a hunch.

  6. Got the same Email after the hit on myspace. Someone SOOOO interested in communicating with me from a lame-ass 2 second profile has to be spamming/phishing…

  7. Yeah, it’s obviously a scam… but at least they got me to hit the email address which I never do! I guess my first clue was her “friend” Andrea in Portland had no photo and 18 friends who were ALL GUYS. Interesting.

    The myspace message seemed innocuous enough… “she” found my profile interesting and wanted to chat. OK, cool – I get that often enough from legitimate users. But her actual email reply didn’t answer ANY of the questions I asked (formula) and obviously the website she linked is a crock of shit (in spite of the gorgeous babe, damn). I searched the photos for any evidence it was from Portland, found nothing. The real estate sign is NOT necessarily from Michigan, by the way, I did the same search and the Coldwell Banker and phone number are two separate listings on that page; the phone number belongs to a dentist. So that sign is still a mystery. My question is, why would she link her class project to a non-existent webpage, that just invites investigation! In fact, by googling ccotw.edu is how I found this site.

    Stupid phishers. Anybody with half a brain will figure them out, but I guess old bastards who think with the wrong organ will get what they have coming! Later guys… by the way “Kristen”s t-shirt is a band called 30 Seconds to Mars, which is actor Jared Leto’s group, currently on tour with Audioslave. Maybe I’ll see her at a show, and we can have a nice chat.

  8. You’re not alone, I got the same thing, slightly different adress. Hum, I guess my first tip was the fact that she’s using her “friends” myspace. I guess her friend is fat…ok, I was kidding, I like a little chubby :p.

    At least the dilbert strip on her site kept me entertained.

  12. I received the exact same message earlier this morning. As if people were’mt tired enough of getting the emails and dealing with BOT’s in chat we have to get this crap on myspace now. I don’t know why I decided to google search her screen name but in confirms exactly what I thougt.

    I got the same suspicions and did similar searches as the rest of you. I did a “WHOIS” search of the domain, and that got me no where. Seems the web host is actually legit. The broken school link is what gave it away to me. I mean at the very least she wasn’t local in that there’s no real “community college” in the greater Boise area. Is there anyway we could report this to myspace and get this person booted? Not like it appears it would do any good. If they’ve got enough time to set up this many duplicate web sites, they’ll have no problem setting up endless dummy myspace accounts. Either way, thanks for the blog dude. At the least it was a definitive answer to the question.

  21. Same message hit me in Chicago at 2am this morning. I guess they are phishing for CC numbers. They don’t care about all us people who figure it out – as long as they’re getting some numbers they can resell them at high prices to the ‘identity theft market’. Interesting scheme. What got me was the fact that the response was very generic (didn’t answer any of my questions) and that her school project site had a login for explicit material!! Her ‘sister’ did have a perky chest though!!

    I don’t know you, but I found your site from googling the same stuff. Got the same email on my space and everything. Thought….wow, I was never this lucky, so sent a reply email saying something along the lines of “How did you find me? Just curious.” and got the SAME email back you did with the SAME sites…the exact same link to a NON EXISTANT community college, and then the killer….the adult content ID thing. Hmmmm super sketchy. Anyway, glad to see that this was all just some BS. I’ll be contacting myspace about it. Later.

  34. I got the same email! I got through myspace using supposedly her friends account. I thought at first hey not give it a try and email her back. She emailed right back and seems real. I checked out her website, and I gotta be honest… she’s cute and hot! As I was looking and reading about her, I was thinking what’s a beautiful girl looking for a man this way?

    Now, knowing what I know about the internet, I dug down deeper her site. Like some of you found out, there are two identical site for natalie and kristen. So right then, I knew this gal is tryin to pull a scam. I’m wondering… what kind of scam is she trying to pull though? I’m thinking of playing along and see what I can get out of this person. What do you guys think?

    Be careful with personal sites in general. They will send you obviously fake emails so that you will sign up to reply. Because you can’t send messages on most sites unless you pay like 25bucks a month. They have some good tricks. Give you a phone number which doesn’t have the correct number of digits and tell you that they are changing the email address they messaged you from. Give you a link to a website, which you need to give your credit card number to view the pics that are supposedly of that person.

    actual copy of one of the emails. Notice there is nothing specific to who it was sent to? its a form letter. Also i gave them my screenname in the first damn email. I responded anyways, (didn’t give my credit card to the site they linked me at of course), and i got the exact same email as a response lol. Probably the first give away, though, was that they said it was a short email because they were in a hurry, and REAL people who are in hurry either don’t send emails, or they only write like 2-3 lines heh.

    Well, I checked out your website. You’re ridiculously hot! How I dream of making sweet, sweet love to you! So like I said, I looked at your website and all the while that I was fantasizing about you and wondering why on earth you would send an email to a guy whose picture you’ve never seen before, I had this funny feeling in the back of my skull that something strange was going on. So I checked out the root directory of that website, and found someone named Christina. Wow! Is she your sister or roommate or something? Do you spend all night making sweet, sweet love together? That’s faaaaaaantastic. And because I was so interested, I checked out some other sites too, and guess what??? Your friend Christina apparently has a twin! Her name is Natalie, and she looks exactly like Christina (even the poses in the pictures are the same! wow!!!! can you say de ja vu???) Now I get to fantasize about you AND Christina AND her twin Natalie making sweet, sweet love all night. Great!!!

    But Dianne, just in case for some reason you’re lying to me (and I wouldn’t believe that you were for a second, my lovely Dianne), and you weren’t actually who you said you were, but were actually some paisty-faced loser sitting behind a computer screen in basement thinking up extremely lame scams in which to earn himself enough money for his next meal at Burger King, well what could i say, because I really DON’T think you are lying to me. But just in case you were, (and believe me, I’m not even INSINUATING that’s what you’re about, my sweet Dianne), I think I would have to say this: I am a student at THE top IP and internet law school in the world (and if you do your homework, you might actually figure out where that is). If you ever, EVER fuck with me again, I will speak to the IP professors at my school and we will roll on your ass like an avalanche. Seriously, we’ll hit you so hard, you’ll think it’s 1939 and you’re mother fucking Poland. By the way, you might want to get whatever third-rate lawyers you had write the contractual language for the adult bureau website recheck their work. The Myspace profile lists an area not far from here, the reply e-mail from the girl, although it didn’t answer any of my questions used the “I’m at work” explanation to eliminate suspicion. Her “Blog site” seems so real, what threw me though was the adult content thing at the end. It reeked of a scam, when she didn’t show up in an AIM users search I gooled her name and found this page. Thanks guys, anyone really know what the scammer was after?

It was suspicious that she didnt have her own xanga and that she left a long e-mail from work. Also when I saw the adult verification on http://www.honesthost5mb.com/kristenspage I got suspicious. So I googled the AIM name natkat224 and sure enough I found this.

I knew exactly her spill when I seen her risque pic on her “supposedly” real homepage. No sensible down to earth girl would ever subject herself to that. Also, I checked the source code and came up with two other things. CCOTW is not a communtiy college that I could find and also there is a reference to http://www.ccotw.edu/2142melprojectsite. Another thing is this line of code http://sweetheartsconnection.com/flag/flag_code.php?siteid=1250122. Ok first of all if she is starting out with html then she must be in an advanced class. For just starting out thats a lot of code. I just don’t think they teach that much in the first half of a semester. Well bust of luck.. This is just a ploy to get more members onto those sex sites.
